ASAP FIGHT LEAGUE & Peter Rodgers presents

BATTLE AT THE SUN

REGIONAL FIGHT SPORTS PREVIEW

Written By: Michael Strazzere, and RFS STAFF

February 12, 2014

Competitive Martial Arts Tournament and Kickboxing/MMA legendary promoter Peter Rogers will kick off his ASAP FIGHT SERIES, Battle at the Sun, Febuary 15th at possibly the best venue around, the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in CT. This has been a long time coming and Mr. Rodgers has 2 pro fights headlining the event. The main event is a rematch between top HW Tyler King and the always game and tough Eric ”Lucky Strikes” Bedard. Tyler controlled the first fight en route to a nice finish. The co-main event of the night will feature the always tough 125 lb Dan Cormier against Ernesto Ornelas. Dan is coming off a tough win over prospect, Marvin Maldanado and Ernesto is definitely no joke.

Main Event HW Professional 3X5 minute rounds

Tyler King 7-1 (Connors MMA) vs Eric "Lucky Strikes" Bedard 5-4 (TRI-FORCE MMA)

Tyler has been the #1 HW in the region for some time now but there is a charge of about five top fighters coming after him, none of which will be thrilled by this fight choice. Tyler seems to have the athletic ability and well-rounded game to dominate this fight technically. Eric is probably going to be looking to make the fight a brawl and catch Tyler for the finish. Eric has mase some adjustments in his game switching over to RI's premier MMA Gym Tri-Force MMA.

This fight has the makings of a one up type of fight as Tyler will try to outperform one of the guys chasing his spot. Juliano "Banana" Coutino, who also beat Bedard previously by decision last year is considered to be ranked #2. Business wise this seems like a “safe fight” and a "smart" fight for the Northeast HW kingpin but we can almost guarantee there will be fighters out there that won't be so accepting. Look for an entertaining fight in an absolutely must win for Tyler's caree, and look for the same top HW's to be calling his name right after this fight! If Bedard can pull off the win this would be a huge upset and cause a major rankings shift

in the division

125 lbs Professional 3x5 minute rounds

Dan "The Hamburglar" Cormier (2-3) Triforce MMA vs Ernesto Ornelas (1-4) Choi's Insitute

This is one of those fights where records mean nothing. Dan had an extensive amateur career and has fought nothing short of the toughest professionals around and has always come in giving up some size. He is very well rounded and holds an amateur title win over very highly regarded, Chad Kelly. Cormier is looking for his first two fight winning streak since the amateurs. A win can possibly move him up in the 125 rankings. He is doing all this while still looking for 115 fights! His strength is possibly his standup these days working with highly respected Professional Boxing Coach “Diamond” Dave Keefe, although he has a very strong wrestling base. Dan has great heart and will and will not be easy to beat on this night. His opponent is very similar as he was very accomplished out of Maine in boxing and wrestling.

Ernesto is a formerly looked to be “A can't miss prospect” but, like Dan took some tough fights and some tough losses. Ernesto is VERY well rounded ad comes from a very well disciplined school. We look for this fight to be the prototypical 125 super-fast and exciting battle with the winner taking a HUGE step forward!

7 amateur fights will complete the card, highlighted by Marquis Brewster of NEC and a women's fight, which ALWAYS exciting between Kim Russell and Kimi Haslip. Enjoy the show everyone!!!
